  • Amid Sardaar Ji 3 Row, BJP Leader Hobby Dhaliwal Supports Diljit Dosanjh: “Punjab, Punjabi, And Punjabiyat Are With You”

    Chandigarh (Punjab):

BJP leader and actor Hobby Dhaliwal has come out in support of Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh amid the ongoing controversy over his film Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.

Speaking to ANI, Dhaliwal expressed, “Even before this, many artists from Pakistan have worked in India. We are in favour of Diljit Dosanjh. The stages where the world’s biggest artists dream of performing, our Punjabi gabru, with a turban on his head, proclaims ‘Punjabi aa gaye oye‘. When he goes to the same stage with the tricolour in his hand, then our pride becomes even greater. Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat are with you, Diljit.”

The singer-actor has been facing a massive backlash for collaborating with a Pakistani artist, Hania Aamir, in his film Sardaar Ji 3. The timing has added fuel to the ongoing controversy, as tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

Sardaar Ji 3 was released in theatres on June 27, 2025, but was not released in India.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees had sent a letter to the makers of Border 2, urging them to cut all ties with Diljit.

  • Got To Know About Rape Through Media’: Kolkata College Vice Principal

    Kolkata:

The Vice Principal of a law college in Kolkata, where the alleged gang-rape took place on June 25, has said the administration got to know about the incident through the media. Speaking to NDTV, Nayana Chatterjee of the South Calcutta Law College, said the police initially did not disclose the incident to her or her staff, saying they were on official duty.

She said the police sought her permission to enter the premises on Thursday, a day after a 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two senior students and an alumnus of the institute in the guard’s room.

They told her their visit was “confidential” and asked her not to inform the security guard. She also said the police sealed the two rooms on the ground floor on Thursday.

The vice principal said the victim or any other student didn’t approach the college administration after the incident.

“No guard, no staff or any student called me or mailed me,” Ms Chatterjee said.

She said she got to know about the “disaster” through the media on Friday.

  • Opinion | Why Iranians Are Standing With Their Regime – Even When They Hate It

Once again, regime change is back on the agenda. What began as a military operation by Israel for the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities soon morphed into calls for a regime change in the country. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recorded video messages directly appealing to the people of Iran, assuring them that Israel had nothing against them and that it was their regime that Israel was against.  Even the US joined in the chorus with President Donald Trump saying on Truth Social, “It’s not politically correct to use the term, “Regime Change,” but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”

Meanwhile, missiles and drones flew back and forth between the Jewish state and the Islamic Republic till the US intervened. It first bombed the three main nuclear sites, including Fordow, buried under a mountain  – the effectiveness of these strikes is still being analysed –  and then declared a ceasefire, bringing the 12-day war to an end, at least for now.

  • Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir Stunningly Told To Drop Jasprit Bumrah For Edgbaston Test: “Better…”

Former spinner Monty Panesar believes India should consider giving a break to world number one Jasprit Bumrah, which could “enhance” their performance against England at Edgbaston. India lined up with its pace spearhead, Bumrah, in the series opener at Headingley but still ended on the wrong side of the result. He dazzled in the first innings with figures of 5/83 but returned wicketless in the second as England trounced India by gunning down a 371-run target, their second-highest successful chase in the format. After India fell to a 1-0 deficit, the rumour mill suggested that Bumrah was highly likely to miss the on-field action in Birmingham, scheduled to begin on July 2. Panesar saw the positives of the 31-year-old’s absence and believes India’s attack will be better suited for the conditions that Edgbaston offer to the bowlers.

“India should consider giving him a break, as the team’s attack will be better suited to the conditions at Edgbaston. Making this strategic choice could enhance their performance on that crucial pitch!” Panesar told ANI.

Despite going wicketless in the second session, Bumrah remained India’s most effective quick. Compared to Bumrah’s figures of 5/140 from 43.4 overs at an economy rate of 3.20, the rest struggled to match his impact. Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna combined to return with figures of 9/482 from 92 overs, a massive chasm.

After the conclusion of the contest, head coach Gautam Gambhir declared that the management would not budge on Bumrah’s three-match utilisation. There were recommendations from fans and former cricketers to use Bumrah in all five Tests, but Gambhir quickly turned down the suggestion, claiming they were more concerned about his workload.

During India’s recent training session, Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer and Akash Deep bowled lengthy spells in the nets, with Arshdeep bowling a lot with an old ball. He went around the wicket to right-handers. The 26-year-old’s approach could have been something India decided to adopt after examining the conditions in Birmingham. They may expect the reverse swing to be a factor.

India’s Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

  • The newly built over-bridge became a subject of criticism and ridicule, with residents questioning its design.

    Bhopal:

The Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday suspended seven engineers, including two chief engineers of the Public Works Department for the ‘faulty design’ of the new Rail Over Bridge in Aishbagh area of the city with an unusual 90-degree turn.

“I took cognisance of the serious negligence in the construction of Aishbagh ROB and ordered an inquiry. On the basis of the inquiry report, action has been taken against eight PWD engineers,” Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on X late in the evening.

Seven engineers including two chief engineers were suspended with immediate effect while a departmental inquiry will be conducted against a retired superintendent engineer, he added.

The construction agency and design consultant have been blacklisted, and a committee has been formed to make necessary improvements in the ROB, the chief minister said.

“The ROB will be inaugurated only after improvements are made,” he added.

The newly built over-bridge became a subject of criticism and ridicule, with local residents and netizens questioning its design and wondering how vehicles would negotiate the sharp 90-degree turn.

The engineers against whom action was taken for the alleged faulty design were chief engineers Sanjay Khande and G P Verma, in-charge executive engineer Javed Shakeel, in-charge sub-divisional officer Ravi Shukla, sub-enginner Umashankar Mishra, assistant engineer Shanul Saxena, in-charge executive engineer Shabana Rajjaq, and retired superintendent engineer M P Singh, said PWD additional chief secretary Neeraj Mandloi.

The government also blacklisted architect firm M/s Puneet Chaddha and design consultant M/s Dynamic Consultant, he said.

Built at a cost of Rs 18 crore, the ROB was built to improve the connectivity between Mahamai Ka Bagh, Pushpa Nagar and the station area with New Bhopal, benefiting some three lakh people.

Last week, the PWD formed a committee to find a solution in order to ensure safe movement of vehicles on the bridge.

Officials associated with the construction had argued that they had no other option but to build the bridge this way given the paucity of land and presence of a metro rail station nearby.

If a little extra land is made available, the 90-degree sharp turn can be converted into a curve, officials had said.

  • Yash Dayal, IPL 2025 Winner With RCB, Accused Of ‘Exploitation’ On Pretext Of Marriage

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Indian pacer, Yash Dayal, has been accused of exploitation on the pretext of marriage by a woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. The woman has lodged a complaint through the Chief Minister’s online grievance portal, IGRS. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with the cricketer for the past five years, during which she was emotionally, mentally, and physically exploited. “For the last five years, the complainant was in a relationship with a cricketer. The man emotionally, mentally and physically exploited her by misleading her with the promise of marriage. He introduced the complainant to his family as their daughter-in-law, which made her trust him completely,” the complaint stated.

The woman further alleged that when she confronted Dayal about the alleged deception, she was subjected to physical violence and mental harassment. “During the relationship, the complainant was made emotionally and financially dependent on him. Later, she found that the man was involved in similar relationships with other women as well,” the complaint said.

She claimed to have reached out to the women’s helpline number 181 on June 14, 2025, but said that the matter did not progress at the police station level. Owing to financial and social helplessness, she turned to the Chief Minister’s office seeking justice.

“She has chats, screenshots, video calls, and photos etc as evidence,” it added.

“The request is to investigate this matter promptly and impartially, and to take legal action against the accused. This step is important not only for her, but also for all girls who fall victim to such relationships,” it concluded.

  • The remarks revived tensions between Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s administration, particularly following Musk’s recent departure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency.

    Washington:

Billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday issued a blistering critique of the Senate’s latest draft of Donald Trump’s sweeping tax-and-spending bill, calling the legislation “utterly insane and destructive” right as the chamber prepared to open debate on the nearly 1,000-page proposal.

“The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country,” Musk posted, warning Republican leaders against pushing forward with the legislation. “Utterly insane and destructive,” he added. “It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future. The remarks revived tensions between the Tesla CEO and Trump’s administration, particularly following Musk’s recent departure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). His outspoken opposition adds yet another challenge for Republican Senate leaders scrambling to meet Trump’s July 4 deadline for final passage.

Earlier this month, Musk also denounced the House version of the bill, describing it as a “disgusting abomination.”

“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,” Musk wrote at the time.

His comments triggered a highly public rift with Trump, although Musk has more recently made moves to restore communication with the president. On Saturday, he doubled down on his criticism, posting a series of comments that questioned the bill’s energy policy and overall economic implications.
